PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The original YMCA building, constructed in 1968, became so successful as a result of Its programs and the environment of the facility that an addition was required in 1973. Again success forced additional remodeling and space utilization in 1985.
The building provided one competitive swimming pool, one learning handicap pool, two gymnasiums (one with a suspended running track), a Nautilus Center, a women’s and men’s health club, exercise and weight-lifting rooms, four handball courts, multi-purpose and meeting rooms, five locker areas and administrative space.
In 2002, the YMCA underwent a $2,000,000 renovation which included a major overhaul and replacement of mechanical systems including new air handlers, chiller and pool heating system. One of the existing gymnasiums was converted into a new fitness center and one of the old unused locker rooms was remodeled into a family locker room area with three individual family changing rooms.
This is an example where excellent programs flourish within a well-designed building.
